The Ray LaMontagne concert was amazing! His voice is so incredible, as one person at the concert put it, "it shatters your soul." (a little dramatic, but I think you get the picture) I had heard that his concerts are a little different as he is a rather timid person. There were no fancy lights or crazy backdrops; just four spotlights on Ray and his band and a simple solid color backdrop that changed colors a few times. It went completely dark between songs and the most that Ray spoke was once when he introduced his band saying only their names and then before the last song when he thanked everyone for coming and said he felt like he was home. He did play all the songs I hoped he would and of course more, I think my favorite song of the night was Meg White. Overall it was a great experience and I'm already looking forward to the next time I get to see him perform live.
No more future concerts currently on the horizon until June which looks like it will be a great month filled with some (possibly all) of these shows right here in Charlotte:
- Jessica Lea Mayfield 6/8 at the Visulite
- Ted Leo and the Pharmacists 6/10 at the Neighborhood Theater
- Band of Horses 6/17 at the Neighborhood Theater
**Update: I almost forgot to mention that unfortunately during the first part of the concert there was an annoying couple who sat in front of us. They were talking and/or kissing the entire time - clearly not aware of the greatness they had paid to see. After asking the poor guy next to them if they were bothering him, thankfully they decided to leave! It made me think of an article I read in the March/April issue of Paste that I thought was pretty funny. I couldn't find the article on the Paste site, but found it through a google search on someone else's blog here.
