Blue Like Jazz

My favorite Donald Miller book is Blue Like Jazz. It's no surprise then that my second favorite is A Million Miles in a Thousand Years - his book about discoveries while writing the script for the Blue Like Jazz movie.

There's a campaign going on to save the movie since 'they' (the people who make movies happen) were unable to secure funding. It's been a pretty incredible story of how the project got started and how quickly the initial goal was met. If you want to read all about it check out Donald Miller's blog here. If you want to donate to the cause you can do that here. I just hope if it gets made that the movie will be as good as the book.

George Michael Bluth alert

I hate to rip someone else off yet again, but I saw this trailer on Pop Candy today and couldn't resist because I think it looks like such an excellent movie. I promise I won't be ripping off Pop Candy very often because it's a website I strongly encourage everyone to view daily and consequently it would be kind of annoying if I just re-posted everything Whitney puts up. Paper Heart is in theaters August 7.

Rory + Matt

In my humble opinion the second worst movie genre ever is mainstream rom-com's (second only to gory horror movies which I don't see the point of but that's another topic for another post). Some friends have pointed out that they believe my hatred for romantic comedies is because I'm somewhat of a "bitter betty" about certain subjects. To those friends I say, sure - I'll admit that there may be a tad bit of bitterness in there as part of my disdain for the genre; however my dislike goes much deeper than bitterness and is actually on many levels and for many reasons. In the interest of time I will list only the top 5 out of the very many things that annoy me about rom-com's: 1) immensely unrealistic, 2) completely predictable, 3) cheesy, 4) full of bad humor attempts, 5) usually contain sub-par acting. I think this promo for "He's Just Not That into You" sums it up well.

However occasionally a rom-com will come along that contains a minority of these unfavorable characteristics (instead of all) and I surprisingly find myself enjoying the movie. I have high hopes that the movie "Post Grad" will fall in this category. Considering it has two of my favorite TV characters Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) and Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford) I'll definitely be giving it a chance. Lord knows it's gotta be better than "P.S. I Love You".

Away We Go

I think I would still be eager to see this movie even if John Krasinski with a beard wasn't in it...of course it doesn't hurt that he is the star and has a great supporting cast. Mark your calendars for June 5.
