Hey Lloyd...

The latest album from Camera Obscura (My Maudlin Career) is out today and I'm already recommending it. Camera Obscura is one of my favorite bands and their song "Lloyd I'm Ready to be Heartbroken" from their previous album Let's Get Out of This Country is definitely somewhere in my top 5 songs of all time. My Maudlin Career has been streaming on NPR for a while and I think the song French Navy is going to be up there with Lloyd.

I had the privilege of seeing Camera Obscura perform live two years ago in Chapel Hill with Rebecca and Katie. Kelly couldn't go for some reason, but being the good Tarheel she is she sent us with a list of attractions to check out while there. Thanks to her, I think we did all the Tarheel things you are supposed to do - we got vanilla diet cokes from Suttons, took pictures in front of the old well/water fountain, saw the stadium, saw the dorm and house Kelly lived in, saw people in kilts, and Katie waited for her future husband under the Davy Poplar Tree. Unfortunately he didn't come but he actually did show up a few months later!

One of the highlights we were looking forward to on the trip was seeing a real camera obscura which is an invention that lead to the camera. Unfortunately for us, they were doing some work on the art museum building and had moved the camera obscura to an undisclosed location that we couldn't find - not for lack of trying. I did finally get to see/drive by a real one when we went to LA a few months ago. Having seen both I can now safely say the band is better than the real thing. Hope you enjoy!
